Gas production falls by 2% in first 7 months of 2025; imports increased by 57.4% (INS)

Romania's usable natural gas production was, in the first seven months of 2025, 4.335 million tons of oil equivalent, 90,100 toe below that of the same period last year (minus 2%), according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), informs agerpres.ro.

On the other hand, during January-July of this year, natural gas imports increased by 57.4% (plus 582,800 toe) compared to the first seven months of 2024, up to 1.597 million toe.

According to estimates by the National Strategy and Forecast Commission (CNSP), natural gas production is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 1.7% until 2027. Thus, in the latest Energy Balance Forecast, natural gas production was estimated at 7.79 million toe (up 1.5%) for 2025, 7.907 million toe (up 1.5%) for 2026, and 8.176 million toe (up 3.4%) for 2027.

Regarding imports, a downward trend is expected, with a more pronounced pace by 2027 (minus 6%), in line with the advance of production, through the entry into operation of new capacities, but also taking into account the maintenance of transit to foreign markets.

CNSP estimates, for 2025, natural gas imports of 2.211 million toe (-7.6%), for 2026 of 2.150 million toe (-2.7%) and for 2027 of 2.022 million toe (-6%).
