A giant 40-cm, 25-kilogram tumour has been surgically removed at the County Clinical Hospital in Cluj-Napoca from a 71-year-old patient, who is stable and has a favourable evolution, the hospital reported on Monday.
"The beginning of spring brought A.F., a 71-year-old patient, hope for a better life. A surgical team coordinated Valentin Munteanu, consisting of surgeons Ioana Constantinescu and Florin Mihaileanu of the General Surgery II department, together with the anaesthesia and intensive care doctor Florin Marchi, of the Clinics 2-4 ICU, surgically disposed of a giant lipomatous tumour formation of approximately 25 kilograms and 40 cm in diameter, occupying a large part of the patient's abdominal and pelvic cavity," the hospital wrote in a social media post.
The surgery is said to have been complicated because the patient had several heart conditions, and the right kidney and part of the colon were excised along with the tumour.
"Now, a few days after the intervention, the patient is in a stable condition with a favourable evolution. We congratulate all the medical staff involved in the management of this special case, and we wish the patient health, a speedy recovery, so that he can return home to his loved ones as soon as possible!", reads the social media post.
