The robotics team ByteForce of the Vasile Alecsandri National College in Galati is organising, on Wednesday, 11 February, the second edition of the "Girls in STEAM" Gala, an educational event dedicated to promoting equal opportunities and encouraging girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
The gala is organised on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and is part of the educational project Romanian Girls in STEM, initiated and coordinated by the ByteForce team, Galati-based Dunarea de Jos University - a partner and host of the event - announced on Friday.
The project aims to create a space for dialogue bringing together school pupils, university students, STEAM professionals, teachers and members of the local community.
This year's edition has special significance, marking ten years of activity by the 'Natie prin Educatie' Association, as well as ten years of the ByteForce team's involvement in STEM education and robotics.
"During the event, female professionals from technical and artistic fields, alongside young women at the beginning of their careers, will share real experiences from their educational and professional journeys, speak about challenges, choices and opportunities, and offer inspirational role models for younger generations interested in these fields. The gala promotes the idea that STEAM education is accessible to all young women passionate about learning and innovation and carries the slogan 'Girls building the future byte by byte', highlighting the essential role of education in shaping a balanced and inclusive future," Dunarea de Jos University said.
The Girls in STEAM Gala is organised in partnership with Dunarea de Jos University of Galati and with the support of the Galati City Hall.
The target audience consists primarily of middle school and high school girls, but participation is open to all those interested in education and personal development, with free access.
The ByteForce team is part of the national FIRST Tech Challenge STEM education programme, organised by the "Natie prin Educatie"/Nation through Education Association. The programme brings together more than 220 teams nationwide and involves over 5,000 students and mentors each year.
Founded in 2016, the "Natie prin Educatie" Association is a non-profit organisation that promotes and supports STEM and STEAM education through regional and national competitions dedicated to high school students.
