On Thursday, the government approved a decision to purchase 1,200 ambulances to modernize emergency medical services, a project worth over 183 million.
Thus, the following was approved by decision the explanatory memorandum on the necessity and appropriateness of incurring expenses related to the investment project for equipping the Mobile Emergency, Resuscitation, and Extrication Service within the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the county ambulance services, and the Bucharest-Ilfov Ambulance Service with ambulances.
"The legislative act adopted by the Government aims to finance the purchase of 1,200 ambulances to modernize emergency medical care, a project worth over 183 million. It also aims to provide the legal framework for changing the source of funding, from the Sustainable Development Program to Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan," according to a statement from the Executive.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as investment coordinator, and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, as beneficiary, signed financing contract no. 24596/2025, which provides for repayable financial assistance in the amount of 183,590,800 or 933,651,013.40 lei, for the purchase of 1,200 ambulances, the source said.
The subsequent contracts related to the agreements concern the purchase of 1,000 type B 4X4 ambulances and 200 type C ambulances.
The investment implementation period is estimated at two years, as follows: year I (2025) - value of 442,109,000 RON including VAT; year II (2026) - value of 687,609,000 RON including VAT.
"The investment project is financed from the amounts allocated to Romania as repayable financial assistance through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, for investment I4 - Modernization of emergency medical assistance, related to Component 12 - Health, through the MAI budget, for the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, within the limits of the annual amounts approved for this purpose, according to public investment programs," the Government announced.
