The Government approved, on Thursday, the technical and economic indicators of the work to improve navigation conditions on the joint Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube (FAST DANUBE), the investment amounting to over 710 million RON.

According to a press release from the Executive, the completion of these works will ensure navigation conditions on the common Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube, respectively on the section between km 845.5 (mouth of the Timoc River) and km 610 (upstream of the Somovit port), maintained by the Romanian Inland Waterway Administration - AFDJ Galati.

The total investment will exceed 710 million RON, and the execution period is 24 months, with interventions planned at six critical points located in the sector under Romania's responsibility, the cited source specifies.

Also, by implementing the project, "the average number of days per year in which minimum navigation conditions are ensured will increase from 280 days to 340 days, and naval transport will become more competitive compared to other modes of transport", the Government points out.

Financing will be provided from non-reimbursable external funds through the Connecting Europe Facility and from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
