The Ministry of Finance (MF) on Friday borrowed RON 148 million off banks in addition to Thursday's RON 986.5 million in one issue of benchmark government bonds of a residual maturity of 81 months at an average yield of 6.62% per annum, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

The nominal value of the additional issue was RON 148 million, and the banks offered RON 550 million.

MF has planned for January 2026 to borrow RON 10 billion off commercial banks, to which 15% and RON 1.2 billion lei, respectively, of the nominal value awarded at the reference auctions can be added, within the additional sessions of non-competitive bids organised exclusively for benchmark instruments.

The total amount of RON 11.2 billion is RON 6.025 billion higher than the one scheduled for December 2025 of RON 5.175 billion, and it is intended for public debt refunding and government deficit financing.
