The interim chairman of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, declared on Tuesday, in Giurgiu, that it would be good to "take more account" of the proposals of the Social Democrats in the governing coalition, adding that he will have consultations within the party regarding the management of the next period from a political point of view.
"We are the largest party in the Coalition. I use this opportunity to say the following: I think it is good to take more account of the PSD proposals if they want us as partners. I repeat, I do not believe that the deficit is being made up by imposing CASS on war veterans, on former political prisoners. These are things that exceed a certain limit. That is why I have this constructive approach. We will come up with these proposals. I hope they will be better taken into account. Moreover, in the coming days we will consult within the party regarding the way in which we will manage and approach the coming period politically," said Grindeanu.
He pointed out that the PSD's entry into government was approved with broad consultation of the party, but this does not make the Social Democrats "prisoners of this Coalition".
Asked if there was a majority in the party that supported leaving the government, Grindeanu replied: "No! I just voted two weeks ago and I did not do it in a restricted way. Almost 5,000 PSD members, 4,700 to be more precise, voted by a majority to enter the government. That does not make us prisoners of this Coalition. We are good-faith partners as long as we are treated in this way. Otherwise, with this broad consultation in the party, we can decide something else. I want you to know that I have no reason to regret it. Not even that almost 400 kilometers of highway were built in the three years or so. I have no reason to regret being part of a government that increased pensions and salaries. These are things that I did not "Why should I regret them? And I don't think that's the way to put the problem. Every country in the European Union in the past developed with a period of deficit, even a large deficit, but that deficit was given by investments. Almost 8% of GDP in last year's budget represented investments. I don't regret for a second that I was part of a government that made investments and these are visible, including today's ones."
The interim president of the PSD mentioned that of the proposals in the first package of measures, only the one regarding the reduction of party subsidies by 40% was approved and added that he agrees with the decrease in the subsidy starting this year.
Sorin Grindeanu said that PSD supported the 4,000 RON threshold for introducing CASS for pensions, requested exemptions in the case of political prisoners and war veterans, but these were not accepted.
"We talked about the CASSs earlier and the respective exceptions and the increase to 4,000 lei, not 3,000 lei, of the limit above which this CASS applies. We talked about the exemption of minor mothers who continue their studies, about certain proposals that came in the area of ??education, but which were not accepted either, unfortunately. That discussed proposal disappeared, I hope it will be in Package 2, I mentioned earlier those taxes on turnover and cryptocurrencies. The way this Package 1 was approached makes us be very careful. And that is why I was telling you that in the party we will have more discussions about how we will approach the next period," Grindeanu also declared.
The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, participated on Tuesday in the reception of the works carried out in the Port of Giurgiu through the project "D.A.N.U.B.E. - Danube Access Network - Unblocking traffic in Europe by developing a high-quality TEN-T port infrastructure in Romania under optimal economic conditions".
