Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, said that Wednesday's Constitutional Court ruling shows that the reform of the magistrates' pensions is solidly grounded and can move forward within the limits set by the Constitution.
In his view, correcting a system that has generated major inequities is not easy, but it is necessary for the health of public finances and for restoring citizens' trust.
"This is an important moment in the process of removing privileges that have created imbalances and tensions in society. The Government chose to address this issue responsibly and consistently, without backtracking or cosmetic solutions. Correcting a system that has generated major inequities is not a simple task, but it is necessary for the health of public finances and for regaining the trust of citizens. With this decision, Romania can unblock the NRRP milestone on special pensions, which would allow us to access around 231 million euros," Jurca wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
He added that the Government will now take the necessary steps to recover the funds linked to this milestone. "This money means investments, budget stability and reduced pressure on the deficit," Jurca added.
The Constitutional Court of Romania on Wednesday rejected the referral submitted by the High Court of Cassation and Justice regarding the new bill of the Bolojan Government on the reform of magistrates' pensions, ruling that the act is constitutional.
