The expert working group established to delve into the issue of drug consumption rejects in-school drug testing of students, recommending instead that such testing be carried out in specialized centers, Health Minister Alexandru Rafila declared on Monday.

According to him, the Ministry is completely against the screening of students, that is, their testing en-masse.

"The testing must be done with the consent and at the request of the parent, with the student's consent. There must be psychological counseling before and after the test, if it turns out positive."

He added that the actions of the Health Ministry must be integrated with those of the Ministry of the Interior, as the fight against drug trafficking is an an extremely important component of the prevention of drug use, a plague which affects Romania, just as other EU countries.
