HealthMin Rafila: Medicine and pharmacy universities should form professionals inspiring trust and respect

Health Minister Alexandru Rafila expressed his hope on Thursday that Romanian medical and pharmacy universities will form a medical corps that enjoys the trust and respect of society.

"May God help us so that the evolution of the Romanian universities of medicine and pharmacy, the way they organise their professional education, research and development activities should form the medical corps inspiring in society trust and respect for the professionals who do their job every day," Rafila said at the opening of the 11th Congress of the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

He pointed out that doctors participate in scientific events for professional improvement in the interest of patients.

"I think that the most important thing that has happened in the last two years is that the universities of medicine and pharmacy are not only supporters of the Ministry of Health, but they are part of the health policies that are carried out in this country. We have turned a painful page, because around 2016 that painful page began, in which health teaching staff were pejoratively described as belonging to a community that does not honour the medical corps. But things have changed and I think that the very strong signal we can give (...) is that we are professionals, we do our duty, and the scientific events we participate in or organise are made for professional improvement, in the interest of Romanian patients," added Rafila.
