Traffic remains high at the Romanian-Ukrainian border crossing in the Romanian town of Isaccea, Tulcea County, as the company providing trips on the Danube between Isaccea in Romania and the town of Orlivka in Ukraine, as well as the customs offices there are working at full capacity.

Every weekend, dozens of lorries queue up at times for two days at Isaccea and near the town to get on the ferry that makes regular trips on the Danube to Orlivka, Ukraine, with the long waiting times being also caused by a high number of people passing through the area.

"The waiting time at the Isaccea crossing, both in and out of Romania, has been high for heavy vehicles since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The number of border guards has been increased since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, and the road infrastructure there is used at full capacity," according to the Coast Guard spokesman Andrei Ene.

Ene also said that, in the last 24 hours, about 330 vehicles with about 220 people entered the European Union through the customs at Isaccea, while in the same period about 350 vehicles and about 2,500 people left the EU.

By comparison, on Sunday, March 6, 2022, about 2,800 people from Ukraine entered Romania.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, on February 24, 2022, about 411,000 vehicles and almost 1,750,000 persons have transited through the Romanian-Ukrainian border crossing at Isaccea.
