The Honour Council of Romania's Star National Order has decided to withdraw the award bestowed on national leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor for Kelemen's statements in a recent interview that the UDMR leaders and the Hungarian community have nothing to celebrate on Romania's Greater Union Centennial in 2018, council member Mircea Geoana has told AGERPRES

The decision will be forwarded to President Klaus Iohannis, who will decide whether or not to withdraw the decoration under a presidential decree.

It was taken with five votes to one abstention, as one of the members was absent.

Kelemen has recently given an interview to Hungarian daily Szabadsag, in which he talked about the preparations for the Greater Union Centennial in 2018. The UDMR leader would have said that the UDMR leaders and the Hungarians have nothing to celebrate on the Centennial and that he fears that in the absence of achievements over the past 100 years, Romanian politicians will resort to nationalist speeches.

In 2000, Kelemen received a Romania's Star decoration in rank of Commander.
