The total monthly average income per household stood at 2,889 lei in Q2 2016 in nominal terms and at 1,089 lei per capita, shows a release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The total expenses of the population in Q2 2016 stood at a monthly average of 2,446 lei per household (992 lei per person), accounting for 84.7 percent of the total incomes.
The monthly average incomes in cash stood at 2.571 lei per household (969 lei per person) and the in-kind monthly income was 318 lei per household (120 lei per capita). Wages and other related incomes represented the most important source of earnings (58.3 percent of the total household income). Also contributing to the total household incomes were social benefits (22.5 percent), farming incomes (3.2 percent), incomes from independent non-agricultural activities (2.2 percent) and incomes from property and sales of household assets (1.5 percent). In-kind incomes also account for an important share (11 percent), mainly the equivalent consumption of agricultural products from own resources (9.7 percent).
The main destinations of household expenditure are food, non-foods, services, transfers to public and private administration and to the social security budget, in the form of taxes and contributions, membership fees, as well as needs related to household production (poultry and animal feed, work payment for household production, sowing products, veterinary services, etc.).
Investment expenditures for the purchase or construction of housing, the acquisition of land and equipment required by household production, or the acquisition of stocks only account for a small weight of 0.7 percent of households' spending.
According to the standard classification of individual consumption expenditure by purpose, food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted in Q1 2016 on average for 38.1 percent of household consumption.
