The average total monthly income per Romanian household was 6,910 RON in Q2 2023 - 2,770 RON per person, down 1 percent from Q1 2023, shows data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Compared to the second quarter of the previous year, the total average monthly household income was up by 10.7 percent, while the per-person average income was 11.6 percent higher, agerpres reports.
The main destinations of household expenditure were food (37.2 percent), while spending on education accounted for 0.5 percent.
According to the standard classification of individual consumption by purpose (COICOP), food and non-alcoholic beverages amounted on average to 1,368 RON per household, representing 37.2 percent of the total household consumption expenditures in the reporting period, followed by the monthly expenses for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels in amount of 519 RON (14.1 percent of the total household consumption expenditures), spending with alcoholic beverages and tobacco, clothing and shoes, each at 277 RON per household (7.5 percent). The lowest level of household expenditure was for education - 18 RON per household (0.5 percent of total average monthly consumption expenditure) and for insurance and financial services - 26 RON per household (0.7 percent of the total average monthly consumption expenses).
