The State Secretary for National Policies in the Hungarian Government, Arpad Janos Potapi, stated on Friday, in Harghita, that the Transylvanian Economic Development Programme, ran by the Executive in Budapest, was and will continually be discussed with the Romanian Government, maintaining that there is very good collaboration between the two states.
"We've always discussed this economic development programme with the Government of Romania and we will do so moving forward and our purpose is to try to help and strengthen the Hungarian economic agents here, so that we can, at the same time, consolidate and strengthen the economy of Romania. This is what happened until now and will happen still and from this point of view we have had a very good collaboration," said Arpad Janos Potapi, in Siculeni, where he attended the commemoration of the Szeklers killed in 1764 by Austrian troops.
He also emphasized that in the past two years, through the entry into government of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and due to Deputy Prime Minister Kelemen Hunor, the neighborly relations between Romania and Hungary have developed much better than previously.
"Hungary can be strong only if Romania is strong, as well as Serbia, Slovakia," said the Hungarian State Secretary.
Asked how the negotiations between Romania and Hungary are going on the topic of the economic programme ran by the Hungarian Government in Romania, he said that this is an aspect that regards the Foreign Ministry and for this reason he can only make general statements, without knowing if these negotiations are taking place concretely.
