Police intervened in over 125,000 domestic violence reports in the first 11 months of the year, 3,768 more than in the same period last year, while the number of criminal offences recorded in this area fell by 17.8 percent, Agerpres reports.
In the first 11 months of 2025, police responded to 125,125 domestic violence reports (3,768 more than in the same period in 2024), of which 60,685 were in urban areas and 64,440 in rural areas.
According to the Romanian Police Inspectorate General (IGPR), at national level, the number of criminal offences recorded in the area of domestic violence decreased by 17.8 percent (-9,772 offences) compared with the same period in 2024 (from 54,833 to 45,061).
Declines were recorded compared with the same period in 2024 for assault or other forms of violence (from 33,461 to 24,393 cases), threats (from 6,923 to 5,683 cases) and family abandonment (from 4,392 to 3,923 offences).
The largest share of offences is represented by "assault or other violence" - 54 percent (24,393 cases).
One of the tools used to impose restrictions on offenders is the temporary protection order, issued by police on the spot when there is an imminent risk to a person's life, physical or psychological integrity.
At national level, police issued 13,995 temporary protection orders, 5,258 of which were converted into protection orders by the courts. Regarding breaches of temporary protection orders, 964 offences were reported, 535 in urban areas and 429 in rural areas.
In the same period, courts issued 14,190 protection orders, 5,258 of them originating from temporary protection orders. Regarding breaches of protection orders, 5,694 offences were reported.
According to the quoted source, in the first 11 months of 2025, nationwide, in 4,117 cases, the measure requiring the offender to wear an electronic monitoring device permanently was implemented.
Of these, 2,257 monitoring measures were ordered for temporary protection orders, representing 16 percent of the 13,995 temporary protection orders issued by police, while in 11,738 cases, victims refused the measure requiring the offender to wear an electronic monitoring device permanently.
Courts ordered electronic monitoring in 1,860 protection orders, representing 13 percent of the 14,190 protection orders issued by the courts.
Through the monitoring system established by the new methodology, situations in which the victim may be in danger are immediately identified and highlighted.
Thus, policemen are now required to carry out direct checks at both the victim's and the offender's residence in order to determine whether the conflict situation has worsened, eased, or been resolved.
