The Mobile Emergency Service for Reanimation and Extrication (SMURD) rescuers provided medical assistance to 4,537 people in difficulty during the National Day short break.
"Over this long weekend marked by the celebration of the National Day of Romania, 5,583 emergency situations were recorded nationwide. In the past four days, the majority of missions handled by rescuers involved first aid cases, with SMURD teams providing medical assistance to 4,537 people in difficulty," the Press Office of the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) informed.
Firefighters' efforts also focused on protecting communities and their property, with operational teams intervening in 838 such situations.
"The firefighters acted to locate and extinguish over 200 fires at national level, thereby preventing the flames from spreading to neighbouring areas and limiting material damage," the quoted source said.
A special attention was also paid to road accidents, with rescue teams intervening in 24 cases to extract victims trapped in vehicles. Throughout the missions carried out in support of the public, 39 people in critical situations were saved thanks to the efficient response of the military firefighters.
"At this time of year, when the number of residential fires is on the rise, we want to underscore the importance of using electrical equipment correctly, avoiding overloading electrical installations, regularly checking and cleaning chimneys and stoves, and installing smoke and gas detectors. These simple measures can make the difference in protecting your home and loved ones," the IGSU mentioned.
