The immigration enforcement carried out more than 6,500 operations, control missions and inspections in the first 11 months of the year to prevent illegal stay and undeclared work, as a result of which 2,341 foreigners were detected in illegal situations.

According to a press release from the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, between January 1 and November 30, the immigration enforcement carried out 6,593 operations, control missions and inspections at the national level, sometimes in collaboration with other institutions operating in this field.

As a result of the respective interventions, 2,341 foreigners were detected in illegal situations (1,854 men and 487 women). Most of them come from Nepal - 473, the Republic of Moldova - 320 and Sri Lanka - 294.

Therefore, the immigration police issues 2,094 return decisions for non-compliance with the legislation on the regime of foreigners, with a deadline for voluntary departure in 15 or 30 days. The main reasons were voluntary departure in 609 cases, refusal to extend the right of residence in 326 cases and illegal residence in 653 cases, the other situations being regulated by the legal framework in force, the same source shows.

At the same time, 626 people were removed under escort. In 273 cases there was a risk of evasion from the voluntary execution of the return obligation, 200 people attempted to fraudulently cross the state border and 114 did not comply with the return decision. The difference is represented by other situations provided for by law.

During the same period, 518 people were placed in public custody centres, pending the completion of legal procedures.

Immigration police will continue their actions in the coming period, to maintain a climate of security and compliance with the legislation regarding the regime of foreigners in Romania, informs IGI.
