President Nicusor Dan declared on Tuesday that in March there would be 40-50 recalls and, respectively, appointments of new ambassadors and announced "an important change" in the field.
"We will have an important change this summer. Because the usual term is 90 days from the moment of the recall until the changes actually occur. I estimate that during March we will have 40-50 recalls and appointments at the same time, so that they become effective from the summer of this year. Including important capitals", the head of state said on Radio Romania Actualitati.
He explained that the usual term is four years of mandate for a diplomat, but it is exceeded for many of Romania's ambassadors.
The President also emphasized the need for the existence of economic diplomacy.
"In broad terms, on the strictly diplomatic side, our diplomacy is professional. What was missing, and I have said this publicly several times, was what is called economic diplomacy. Here, again, there are two components. It is the actual activity of the ambassador who goes, talks with large companies in that country, trying to establish relationships, who probes the market, sees companies in Romania that have opportunities, opens doors. On the other hand, there must be a brain, a vision behind it that directs these people to do these activities. And we had neither one nor the other. That is, we did not have a central vision of economic diplomacy about which areas, Romanian companies, invitations, where to invite. And that will take time. But the mandate that we will give will say the economic aspect is extremely important in their activity," said Nicusor Dan.
