Industrial turnover falls 1.8% in first four months (statistics)

Industrial turnover fell 1.8% in nominal terms during the first four months of the year compared with the same period in 2025, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.

According to the official statistics, during the period from 1 January to 30 April, declines were recorded in manufacturing (-1.8%) and the extractive industry (-1.7%).

By major industrial group, negative results were reported in the durable consumer goods industry (-5.2%), the capital goods industry (-4.1%), the non-durable consumer goods industry (-1.1%) and the intermediate goods industry (-0.5%). The only segment to record growth was the energy industry, which increased 4% year-on-year.

INS data show that, in April 2026 compared with April 2025, industrial turnover dropped 1.1% in nominal terms as a result of activity in the manufacturing sector (-1.4%). By contrast, the extractive industry recorded growth of 6.4%.

By major industrial groups, negative results were recorded in the capital goods industry (-10.2%), the durable consumer goods industry (-5.0%) and the non-durable consumer goods industry (-3.4%). Growth was recorded in the energy industry (+35.6%) and the intermediate goods industry (+3.5%).

Month-on-month (April compared with March 2026), industrial turnover decreased by 7.2%, driven by declines in the extractive industry (-7.8%) and the manufacturing sector (-7.1%).

According to the source, by major industrial groups, decreases were recorded in the capital goods industry (-13.6%), the durable consumer goods industry (-10.8%), the intermediate goods industry (-7.7%) and the non-durable consumer goods industry (-4.6%). At the same time, the energy industry grew 24.6%.
