Energy storage in Romania will reach at least 4 GW of power by the end of 2027, the deputy chair of the Romanian Association for Wind Energy (RWEA), Liviu Gavrilă, said on Thursday at a specialist conference.
"Storage must be implemented at the capacity and volume that Romania needs. We must not look at Bulgaria or Hungary. We must zoom out. We are looking at the regional market, but we are thinking about our strengths: energy mix, economic perspective, climate perspective and so on. We are looking at a curve of projects that are happening, we are looking at the evolution of usage, we are looking at some things, and we will also respond in terms of storage. Storage, from our point of view, will reach a minimum of 4 gigawatts of power by the end of next year," said Gavrila, at the release of the third edition of the Code of Good Practice for Renewable Energy in Romania.
According to him, Romania will reach an energy storage capacity of 2 GW by the end of this year, with 4 GW of installed power.
He said that Bulgaria currently has a storage capacity of between 6 and 8 GW of power, and the installed capacity between 12 and 15 GW.
"I believe in Romania, when it reach close to this power, also 6-7, with a minimum of 3-4 hours to reach a level of stability and that will help this large gap at this moment between the off-peak and peak price to decrease significantly," said Gavrila.
The Association of Romania's Photovoltaic Industry and Storage (RPIA) and the Romanian Association for Wind Energy (RWEA) released on Thursday, October 1, the third edition of the Code of Good Practices for Renewable Energy in Romania.
