Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) from Constanta and Tulcea counties and representatives of the tourism industry will develop a joint strategy to promote the destination and attract scheduled and charter flights to Mihail Kogalniceanu Constanta International Airport for the 2027-2030 period, with the aim of increasing the number of Romanian and foreign tourists.
According to a statement by the RESTO Employers' Association, an initial working meeting took place on Wednesday at Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport in Constanta; the meeting focused on analyzing air traffic trends at the airport for the 2006-2026 period, assessing the current situation, and establishing initial measures to develop air connectivity for Constanta and Tulcea counties.
"The Romanian Riviera and Dobrogea have everything it takes to become a competitive destination on the international market. Achieving this requires a joint strategy, coordinated promotion, and the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, and Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport in Constan?a is the infrastructure that can better connect us with the rest of Romania and all of Europe," stated Corina Martin, President of RESTO Constanta.
According to the cited source, any tourist destination is defined by attractiveness, promotion, and accessibility the three essential elements for generating visibility, reputation, tourist flows, and revenue for the hospitality industry as well as for local and central budgets.
"The Dobrogea regional destination benefits from road, rail, and above all air accessibility via the Mihail Kogalniceanu Constanta International Airport. This facility must be viewed as a strategic asset for the entire Dobrogea region, serving not only to attract tourists and visitors but also to foster trade and business flows, draw investment, and strengthen economic interest in the region as a whole. Given the rapid and substantial growth of air traffic at numerous international airports across Romania, I consider it essential and urgent to adopt a strategy aimed at attracting airlines and opening new routes to 'the airport that unites us,'" she said.
In this context, Corina Martin also highlighted the support of the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism for this initiative.
"I welcome the Ministry's support through the participation of Mr. Alin Grigore, Director General of the Tourism Directorate an involvement that will be complemented by the tourism promotion strategy for 'Destination Romania.' Today, we succeeded in bringing together destination management organizations, representatives of public authorities and the tourism industry, and Mihail Kogalniceanu Constanta International Airport. This is a concrete first step toward building a joint strategy to promote the Romanian Riviera and the Dobrogea region," stated Corina Martin.
She stated that the priority objective of the initiative is to attract new scheduled and charter flights and, consequently, to increase the number of Romanian and foreign tourists choosing this destination.
For his part, Petrut Gheorghita, manager of the Constanta County Destination Management Organization (OMD), stated that the county's tourism and business potential cannot be fully realized without air connectivity, and that the airport represents a key asset in this regard.
"Today's meeting is a first step towards defining a common course of action for all the destination management organizations (DMOs) on the coast," said Petrut Gheorghita.
He stated that the Constanta County Destination Management Organization (OMD), with the support of the Constanta County Council, aims to develop the Romanian Riviera tourist destination along the entire coastline from Corbu to Vama Veche but that this can only be achieved through cohesion across the destination as a whole.
"Through the actions taken by the County Council over the past two years, the entire county has become a safer, more stable, and more attractive place for both the business sector and tourism, and I am convinced that together we will be able to increasingly showcase the entire area, with its beauty and opportunities," said Gheorghita.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Constanta County Destination Management Organization (DMO), Constanta-Mamaia DMO, Mamaia Nord DMO, Navodari City Hall, Mangalia DMO, the Eforia Turistica Employers' Association, and Limanu-Vama Veche DMO, as well as representatives of Mihail Kogalniceanu Constanta International Airport and the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism.
