Intelligence Service's Hellvig: We're still working on the service's transparency

eduard hellvig

The head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), Eduard Hellvig said on Tuesday that the service is performing, but not perfect, and that it still has to work on its transparency. "We are performing, yet not perfect. (...) We are not perfect since we have to work on the transparency of service's activity," Hellvig said after the SRI's activity report meeting attended by President Klaus Iohannis.

He mentioned some figures to illustrate the service's work in 2015: 340 persons considered terrorist risks were denied entry or were expelled from Romania; 9,000 individuals not allowed to enter the country have been monitored; 3,800 information notes have been sent to law enforcement authorities, and nearly 10,000 to decision makers; SRI's experts managed more than 550,000 cyber alerts.

The director declared that, 26 years after its establishment, the service's priority is the security of citizens. He specified that the terrorism, the organized crime and the cyber crimes are nowadays aimed directly at the citizens.
