Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan paid a visit to the Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation in Targu Mures - the Heart Institute - on Saturday, where a new hospital building for the treatment of patients with severe cardiovascular conditions will be constructed with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the Government announced.
According to a press release issued by the Government, Bolojan discussed the progress of the project with the institute's management and assured them that there would be no problems regarding the payment of the works.
"The investment, worth more than 770 million lei, of which nearly 500 million lei comes from PNRR funding, is approximately 80% physically completed and will be finalised at the end of August 2026. It is one of the most important healthcare investment projects in Romania, aimed at bringing cardiology and transplant medical infrastructure up to modern standards. The new hospital building will have 214 beds for inpatient care and five beds for day hospitalisation, new operating theatres, as well as facilities for investigations and treatment. The financing contract was signed on 17 March 2023 and the works have progressed at a sustained pace, in line with the timetable undertaken by the contractor," the press release reads.
According to the quoted source, the objective of the project is the construction of a new hospital building to allow the complete relocation and grouping of all the institute's sections, structures and departments into a new building that is efficient from both a functional and construction perspective, in line with current administrative, medical and quality standards and requirements, facilitating an integrated approach to healthcare services.
