Interim Prime Minister, Liberal leader Ilie Bolojan says the Senate vote on the integrity law "was a difficult one for the PNL, because a provision that changes the rules during the game is deeply immoral and unfair", but announced that the National Liberal Party "will support, through all necessary actions, the amendment" of the legislation.

"The vote on the ANI law was a difficult one for the PNL, because a provision that changes the rules during the game is deeply immoral and unfair, regardless of the legal devices used to justify it. But for Romania's prime minister and for the PNL, the party bearing major responsibility in government, the stakes of a decision are primarily about Romania, and the supreme principle is defending the country's interests. And at this moment, the country's interest in meeting the milestones by the end of this month, including the ANI law and the pay law, takes precedence over any other discussion. On the one hand, we are talking about European funds that Romania must not lose, while on the other hand, we are talking about Romania's credibility in honouring its commitments. The loss of these European funds would have implications for the country's budget, with investments being financed to a significant extent from this money. In addition, the risk of Romania suffering a severe downgrade in its sovereign rating would increase significantly, with serious consequences for the standard of living of all Romanians," Ilie Bolojan wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

He stressed, however, that "this law cannot remain as it is".

"The PNL will support, through all necessary actions, its amendment. We will stand alongside the USR in this moral endeavour, not for one person, but to restore fair rules. To complete the PNRR milestones, the pay law also needs to be adopted, with stakes that are just as high," the Liberal leader said.

On Wednesday, the Senate plenary re-examined the Law amending and supplementing certain normative acts in the field of integrity (PLx 464/2026), following the Constitutional Court's ruling of August 17, and voted to approve the report recommending adoption of the law in the form adopted by the Chamber of Deputies following re-examination.
