Interim Prime Minister Catalin Predoiu will pay a working visit to the flood-affected areas of Covasna County, the Department for Emergency Situations reported on Friday.
According to the cited source, Catalin Predoiu is to travel to Covasna County in the immediate future, to assess the situation generated by the floods on site and to discuss with local authorities the necessary measures to support the affected communities.
The Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) within the Ministry of Internal Affairs informs that hydrological phenomena in Covasna County are still permanently monitored by the specialized structures of the MIA, together with local and county authorities, according to Agerpres.
Following heavy rainfall, several areas in the county were affected by local overflows of watercourses, especially in the Lunca Marcuşului and Băcel areas. Intervention crews managed to close a breach on the Tărlung River and consolidate vulnerable dikes, with the support of over 5,000 sandbags and high-capacity equipment.
"In order to ensure immediate support to the population, a request was sent to the county prefectures to report urgent needs, such as drinking water, food or other basic necessities. Up to this point, no specific requests have been registered in this regard, the problems being managed efficiently at the local level. At the time of the withdrawal of the waters, teams of specialists will proceed to assess the damage, in collaboration with the local public administration authorities, to establish support measures for the population and restore the affected infrastructure. At the same time, in the immediate following period, at the time of the withdrawal of the waters, in order to be able to fully inspect the situation, a working visit will take place in Covasna County, led by the interim Prime Minister, Mr. Catalin Predoiu, for an on-site assessment of the situation, as well as for discussing the necessary measures to support the affected communities," announced the DSU.
Regarding the Praid Salt Mine, DSU mentions that the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Environment were mandated, based on a decision of the National Committee for Emergency Situations, to conduct a detailed assessment of the situation and propose concrete remedial measures to the Executive, including from the Budgetary Reserve Fund at the Government's disposal.
