More than 500 athletes from 18 countries will take part in the International Boxing Tournament "Dracula Open" 2026, which will be held in Ploiesti from 16 to 21 February.
According to a press release issued on Thursday by Ploiesti City Hall, hundreds of high-level boxing bouts will take place during this period, with competitions scheduled daily between 14:00 and 21:00.
"For one week, at the Olimpia Sports Hall, 537 athletes (over 750 participants in total) from 18 countries, including three of the current world boxing superpowers - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine - will trade punches in the Ploiesti ring in a competition that will also feature the leading favourites for medals at the Youth Olympic Games set to take place this autumn in Dakar," the cited source states.
The 18 participating countries are: Romania, Italy, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Austria, Kuwait, Israel, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Belgium, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Greece and Serbia.
Romania will field full teams in all age and weight categories, male and female, with 14 highly promising boxers from Ploiesti among the competitors.
Fourteen of Romania's European medallists from last year, including European cadet champion Andrei Casu and junior vice-champions Timea Andreea Tapu, Denis Alexandrescu, Florin Ulmeanu and Iuseim Birhan, will step into the ring in Ploiesti.
The opening bell of the International Boxing Tournament 'Dracula Open' 2026 will ring on Monday, 16 February, at 14:00, while the grand finals are scheduled for Saturday, 21 February, starting at 14:00.
The International Boxing Tournament "Dracula Open" 2026 is organised by the Romanian Boxing Federation in partnership with Ploiesti City Hall and the Ploiesti Municipal Sports Club.
