The first edition of the International Theatre Season, an event organized by ARCUB, a large-scale cultural project that aims to redefine the capital's theatre scene, will open on Friday with the show "Reminiscencia" (Chile), directed by Malicho Vaca Valenzuela.

The show impressed the audience at the Avignon Theatre Festival, TransAmeriques Festival (Canada), Grec Festival (Spain).

Mihaela Paun, head of ARCUB, stated that the new project aims to bring to Bucharest some theatre shows to which the public has less access.

"It's about an international opening and Bucharest needed to bring theatre shows that the public cannot access very easily otherwise. And here we are talking about shows from abroad, but also shows from the other Romanian cities. The first show is one from Chile. It's about a one-man show, an essay, a biographical documentary about the memory and history of the city of Santiago de Chile," Mihaela Paun told AGERPRES.

She specified that the next two shows, one from Berlin and the other from the "Fani Tardini" Dramatic Theatre in Galati, will be seen on May 16 and 17, and May 24 and 25, respectively.

"In May we have 'A Girl's Story,' directed by Sarah Kohm, with Veronika Bachfischer, a show brought from Berlin, from the famous Schaubuhne theatre, which will be performed on May 16 and 17. This time we are talking about a one-woman show, a story inspired by Annie Ernaux's novel and it is somehow about the feminine soul, about problems in general, about the feminine universe. Also in May, on May 24 and 25, we will bring the show 'Queen of the Night,' this time a show from the province, from the 'Fani Tardini' Dramatic Theatre in Galati, directed by Leta Popescu. It is a show that currently has four nominations at the UNITER Gala, two of the most important - the nomination for best actress in a leading role and for best show," the ARCUB director also said.

According to the organizers, the audience will have access to Q&A sessions and open dialogues with the invited artists, moderated by the season's curators, Oana Bors and Ioana Anghel, together with the theatre expert Mihaela Michailov, as well as a series of video interviews with the invited artists, presented on the online platforms of the two organizers - ARCUB - the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Bucharest, in partnership with the "Camil Petrescu" Cultural Foundation.

The first edition of the International Theatre Season is held under the theme "Common Space: The Present."
