Ion Iliescu funeral/coffin of the former president will be laid at Cotroceni Palace

Former President Ion Iliescu will arrive at Cotroceni Palace for the last time on Wednesday.

The coffin with the lifeless body of the former head of state will be taken at 8:30 a.m. from the "Agrippa Ionescu" Hospital, where Ion Iliescu died on Tuesday, and will be taken to the Cotroceni Palace along the route: Arhitect Mincu Street - Kiseleff Boulevard - Victoriei Square - Lascar Catargiu Boulevard - Romana Square - Universitaţii Square - Regina Elisabeta Boulevard - Mihail Kogalniceanu Boulevard - Heroes Bridge - Eroii Sanitari Boulevard - Gheorghe Marinescu Boulevard.

At 9:00 AM, the funeral procession will enter the courtyard of the Cotroceni Palace via the Marinescu Gate. Here, the Guard of Honor, made up of soldiers from the 30th Guards Brigade "Mihai Viteazul", will present the honor.

The coffin with the lifeless body of the former president of Romania will be laid in the Union Hall of the Cotroceni Palace and will be flanked by soldiers in the Honor Guard at the catafalque.

After a short religious moment, between 9:30 and 12:30, high-ranking officials are expected to pay their last respects and sign the Book of Condolences that will be placed in the Flower Salon.

Afterwards, between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, citizens who wish to do so will be able to present their condolences. Their access will be via the Registry Entrance on Geniului Boulevard (Lion Statue Area), and the exit will be via the Museum Gate on Cotroceni Road.

The public can only place flowers or candles in the specially arranged space in front of Cotroceni Palace, in the Presidential Administration parking lot on Geniului Boulevard.

At 6:30 PM, the presentation of condolences by former collaborators and relatives is scheduled, after which the Order of the Pillar Service will be celebrated.

During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the 30th Guards Brigade "Mihai Viteazul" will provide guard duty at the catafalque.

For the presentation of condolences at Cotroceni Palace, several access rules were established, considering the state funerals.

Thus, those who will come to offer condolences must wear a sober outfit in dark colors.

To gain access to the "Cotroceni Palace" Complex, the public will undergo an individual security check and baggage check, at the request of security personnel.

Access for children under 14 years of age is prohibited.

Also, talking on the phone, taking photos, and filming are strictly prohibited, out of respect for the solemnity of the moment.

Access with dangerous objects, weapons, large backpacks, suitcases or large luggage or other objects that may hinder access and affect the safety of visitors is prohibited.

The use of cameras, mobile phones or other electronic devices is prohibited.

Access will not be allowed to persons who violate or do not respect the protocol and behavior rules.

Persons present at the Cotroceni Palace are asked to maintain solemnity and silence throughout the presentation of condolences, to respect internal order measures and to cooperate with the specialized personnel of the Protection and Security Service during the security checks that will be carried out in the courtyard and inside the Cotroceni Palace, to respect the schedule of activities and the travel route established by the organizers, as well as the instructions of the specialized personnel of the Presidential Administration and the SPP, and not to bring personal items - volumes, letters, illustrations, documents or photographs.

Former President Ion Iliescu died on Tuesday at the age of 95. He had been hospitalized since early June at the "Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu" Emergency Clinical Hospital (SRI Hospital).
