Romanian tennis player Irina Bara qualified on Thursday for the quarterfinals of the USD 100,000 ITF tournament in Charlottesville (Virginia), after defeating Australian Arina Rodionova 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
Bara (30, World No. 281) prevailed after two hours and 27 minutes against the second seed.
Rodionova (35, World No 169), who committed 9 double-faults in the match, now leads Bara 2-1 in straight games.
The Romanian won in 2019 in the first qualifying round in Istanbul 6-1, 6-1, and the Russian-born player won in 2024 in the second qualifying round of the US Open 6-4, 6-4 in the first two direct matches.
In the quarterfinals, Irina Bara will meet American Lauren Davis (31, World No 191 WTA), the fifth seed.
