The philatelic issue called "Irises" made up of four stamps and two "First Day" covers in miniature formats, will be issued on Thursday by Romfilatelia and the Romanian Post.
According to a Romfilatelia release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the issue features hybrids of Iris germanica, commonly known as the bearded iris, one of the most spectacular ornamental plants cultivated in gardens.
The four stamps have face values of 5.50 lei, 6.50 lei, 9 lei and 16 lei.
The series will be available from Thursday in Romfilatelia stores in Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara, as well as online.
A symbol of royalty and a subject of Greek mythology, where Iris is depicted as the goddess of the rainbow, the iris flowers are celebrated for their unique shape and intense colour variations, bringing optimism and joy to those who cultivate them or receive them as gifts.
After the advent of Christianity, the iris came to be associated with the Virgin Mary, symbolising divine protection, faith, wisdom and virtue.
