Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian qualified for the second round of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Indian Wells (USA), with a total prize pool of USD 8,963,700, after defeating Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-2, 6-3 in a match played on Thursday.

Cristian (26 years old, WTA's 79th) secured a check for USD 35,260 and 35 WTA points, and in the next round, she will face Canadian Leylah Fernandez, WTA's 27th.

Jaqueline Cristian is the second Romanian player to qualify for the second round at Indian Wells on Thursday, after Sorana Cirstea, who won 6-2, 7-5 against Australian Maya Joint, who came through the qualifiers. Cirstea (34 years old, WTA's 111th) will play American Emma Navarro, World No. 8, in the second round.
