July net average salary earning down 35 lei, to 4,565 lei (Statistics)
The net average salary earning amounted to 4,565 lei in July, down 35 lei (-0.8%) from the previous month, the lowest value being maintained in hotels and restaurants, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.
In July 2023, the gross average wage was 7,317 lei, 47 lei (-0.6%) lower than in June 2023. The highest values of average net earnings were recorded in information technology service activities (including computer service activities), 10,584 lei, and the lowest in hotels and restaurants, 2,546 lei.
Compared to July last year, net average earnings increased 14.8%.
According to the INS, the real earnings index was 104.9% in July 2023 compared to July 2022. The real earnings index accounted for 99.1% in July 2023 compared to June 2023. Compared to October 1990, the real wage gain index stood at 232.6%, 2.1 percentage points lower than in June 2023.
During the year there are fluctuations in earnings mainly due to the annual bonuses and holiday bonuses, especially in the months taken as a basis for comparison (December, March/April). These influence increases or decreases depending on the period in which they are granted, ultimately leading to a smoothing out of fluctuations in monthly earnings over the year as a whole. The evolution of real earnings depends both on fluctuations in average net earnings and on the rate of inflation.
According to the INS, in July 2023, the level of net average earnings recorded both decreases and increases compared to the previous month.
The decreases in net average earnings compared to June 2023 were due to the granting in previous months of occasional bonuses, benefits in kind and aids, amounts from net profits and other funds (including vouchers). Also, the decreases in net average salary earnings were caused by non-achievement of production or lower receipts (depending on contracts/projects), as well as the hiring of staff with lower than average salary earnings in some economic activities.
Increases in net average earnings compared to the previous month were due to occasional bonuses (quarterly, annual or special performance bonuses), benefits in kind and aids, amounts from net profit and other funds (including vouchers), but also to production achievements or higher receipts (depending on contracts/projects).
