Justice Minister Radu Marinescu says that he has decided to nominate Codrin-Horatiu Miron for the position of chief prosecutor of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terror because Miron is a prosecutor with a solid professional training and a remarkable academic career.
According to a press statement released by the Justice Ministry on Monday, in making his pick he essentially took into account Miron being a prosecutor with "a solid" professional training and "a remarkable" academic career, who, in his management project, correctly identified the guidelines for action in order to increase the operational capacity of DIICOT to combat organised crime, to increase the quality and efficiency of the act of justice and to identify the criminal proceeds to be seized by instituting precautionary measures.
The minister also says that Miron is, among other things, a prosecutor specialised in combatting economic and financial crime, having a significant practical experience in recovering the proceeds of crime, including those abroad.
Marinescu also shows that the vision of prosecutor Miron for increasing the operational capacity of DIICOT to combat organized crime is by prioritising criminal investigations and focusing on cases capable of producing a special impact on the criminal environment (drugs, human trafficking, migrants, cybercrime, macro-economic and financial crime).
"The analysis of the management project resulted in the correctness of the strategy regarding the identification of the criminal proceeds to be seized through precautionary measures, with the following actions: limiting the access of organised crime groups to financial resources through parallel investigations for the identification and seizure of the criminal proceeds (follow the money), through precautionary measures for the purpose of special/extended confiscation, correlative with the strengthening of the early and immediate recovery of seized assets; insistence on the application of the legal provisions on the institution of extended confiscation; intensified cooperation with the National Agency for the Management of Seized Assets (ANABI) and National Office for the Prevention and Combatting of Money Laundering (ONPCSB), and through them with their counterpart structures abroad," says Marinescu.
The minister adds that Miron presented the managerial model for improving the image of DIICOT in the media and in the community: a transparent, modern and citizen/society-oriented public communication; organising news conferences on aspects related to the activity of criminal prosecution bodies that arouse the interest of the media and the public; opening of accounts on social media to promote the image of DIICOT and reflect the activity and results by the specialised structure of the prosecutor's office.
Also competing for the position of chief DIICOT prosecutor were Ioana-Bogdana Albani - chief prosecutor at DIICOT - Central Structure; Antonia Diaconu - chief prosecutor at the Pitesti Local Service, and Alina Albu - current chief prosecutor at DIICOT.
