The largest special hearing space for juvenile victims of crime in Romania was opened on Tuesday in a building of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Arad, informs a press release sent by DGASPC Arad, inform agerpres.ro.

According to the cited source, the space was set up with donations made by business people and individuals and it contains a hearing room with a one-way mirror, a counseling room, a waiting room, a technical room and a sanitary group, all of them offering "a safe and welcoming environment for juvenile victims of crimes".

The special hearing room for minors is equipped with modern furniture, toys, as well as audio-video recording technology and was created to improve the quality of interaction with children, who are the most vulnerable victims of crime.

"Crimes that involve sexual violence and whose victims are children are particularly serious offences, with multiple long-term consequences that affect the entire lives of the victims. We are happy to have here in Arad a special room for the hearing of minor victims, a space so beautifully set up and equipped with state-of-the-art audio-video recording technology, where children and young persons, witnesses or victims of abuse or other crimes are heard and then counseled in a friendly environment, without having contact with the perpetrators or other parties involved," says the director of DGASPC, Erika Stark.

DGASPC psychologists and 30 police officers specialized in interviewing techniques will work with the minors in the hearing room.

"The advantages of hearing children in the special room are that the minor no longer has to go through the stress and tension of multiple hearings, the recordings provide the possibility for the criminal investigation bodies to observe and see the statements and behavior of victims whenever necessary. A counseling room has also been set up within the project to provide a comfortable space for sessions in which recovery and rehabilitation services are provided to the minor victim," the press release further shows.

A similar project has been recently finalized in Oradea, but on a smaller scale, and Timisoara and Sighetul Marmatiei will be the next cities to have such spaces for the hearing of young persons.
