Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban on Saturday stated in Timisoara that within the party there is a very intense competition concerning the candidacies for a MEP spot, many of the aspirants being "people of value" with extremely interesting projects.
"It matters less what I want, it is about what my colleagues want. We have a pretty intense competition. Many important leaders of the party, many people of value from the party expressed their intentions of running for the European Parliament. We have adopted a decision of the National Council that establishes a series of criteria based on which we can evaluate the candidacies. Each candidate will have to submit a project related to his objectives in the European Parliament. There are extremely important projects that were submitted, it's difficult for me to figure out how to score them", Ludovic Orban explained.
The Liberal leader underlined that PNL is a powerful party, well anchored in the European Union, and is "the only voice that can be heard and respected at the level of the European institutions, obviously, alongside the voice of Romania's President, who is, by far, the political leader with the greatest credibility at international level".
Replying to a question from the press, Ludovic Orban said that Timis senator, Alina Gorghiu, is "a strong candidate, that has many advantages". He specified that the deadline decided by the National Council for completing the list of candidates is November 15, with two extra weeks to possibly be added.
Asked if he decided to run for the MEP elections, Ludovic Orban pointed out that the matter of his candidacy is not as important.
"I am the chairman of the National Liberal Party. I am appointed as a candidate of the party to the office of Prime Minister. I am interested in identifying in each county, each region, important projects that can be included in the governing program, for which we can identify financing sources and to start their preparation, so when we will sit down to govern, we will know what to do and not to need 3-4 months to understand what this is all about", Ludovic Orban said.
