Two Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft of the German Air Force, deployed at 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, conducted a flight over the area near the border with Ukraine on Thursday, after the Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MApN) radar surveillance systems detected a group of aerial drones 36 nautical miles northeast of Sulina.
According to the MApN, shortly after radar contact was established, the drones changed course northwards, and the electronic signal subsequently disappeared.
The Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft continued their monitoring mission and then landed at 57th Air Base.
The German Air Force is participating, for a period of four months, with a detachment of five fighter aircraft, in the enhanced Air Policing mission, aimed at protecting national and allied airspace.
Cohesion and solidarity are the foundation of the North Atlantic Alliance and represent a firm guarantee that any challenge to security will be met with a unified and resolute response, the MApN release reads.
