Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Friday that the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) on the annulment of the presidential elections is the only correct solution after the declassification of the documents from the Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT) meeting, which show that the result of the Romanian vote was blatantly distorted following Russia's intervention, informs Agerpres.

"The CCR decision on the annulment of the presidential elections is the only correct solution after the declassification of the documents from the CSAT meeting which show that the result of the Romanians' vote was flagrantly distorted, following Russia's intervention. The presidential elections must be resumed," Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.

He added that the authorities' investigations must show who the culprits are for the attempt to massively influence the outcome of the presidential election.

"Romanians need clear answers from the authorities, based on solid evidence, because public confidence in state institutions and democratic processes that underpin the functioning of the country depends fundamentally on this investigation. Now, it is extremely important to validate the mandates of the new Parliament and to achieve a pro-European parliamentary majority that will support the rapid appointment of a new Government, whose priority is to continue Romania's European development path. PSD has signed, together with PNL, USR, UDMR and representatives of minorities, an agreement in this regard and considers that at this moment the parties must put above their own interests a single national objective - stopping extremist forces," he said.

Ciolacu says that the appointment of the new pro-European government is an important signal for the economic environment and for foreign investors, taking into account the worrying reactions of the last two weeks. At the same time, the appointment of the new government is essential in order to protect Romanians' incomes and to build a budget for 2025 that will guarantee the continuation of investment projects with European money, the prime minister added.
