PSD MP Marius Budai argued on Thursday that Romania should follow Germany's example and increase the minimum wage across the economy.
"Germany, the country of origin of the USR president, Dominic Fritz, announced that it is increasing the minimum wage in the economy! Not only in 2026, but also in 2027! It would be a good reason for the USR to join the PSD in the Coalition to support the increase in the minimum wage in Romania, starting next year. And if we still look at Germany as an icon of good practices in the economy, we should also follow this example. Especially since, at purchasing power parity, the minimum wage in Germany is the second highest in the European Union, after that in Luxembourg," Budai wrote on Facebook.
He added that the Berlin Government did not increase VAT, and inflation was not the highest in the EU, like in Romania.
"So, the purchasing power of German employees was not nearly as affected as in the case of Romanian employees. So, if Germany considers that an increase in the minimum wage is necessary, then, even more so, such a measure is necessary in Romania! I hope that this news will also be read by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. And I hope that he will stop insisting that the increase in the minimum wage increases the salaries of public sector employees and the budget deficit. It is a gross falsification of reality! With the budget deficit, it is exactly the opposite! It mitigates the budget deficit and supports consumption, which helps the business environment and sets the economy in motion," mentioned the former Minister of Labor.
