Head of the Emergency Situations Department (DSU) Raed Arafat said today that the protective mask - medical grade or FFP2 - will become mandatory both indoors and outdoors from the moment the joint order of the Health and Interior Ministers is published in the Official Journal.
"The order should be out this week," Arafat said, adding that certain exceptions to this requirement will be allowed, including sports activities.
"The mask is mandatory on the street, unless you perform individual activities. In the bus station, in the subway station, whenever one is on the street and has people walking around one shall wear a mask, just like in many other countries that have implemented this measure," Arafat said, cautioning of that the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is highly contagious.
He also made it clear that following the decision of the National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) the managers of critical infrastructures can mandate employee Covid testing or the wearing of FFP2 protective masks, giving the example of the nuclear power plant.
The CNSU decision cuts to 30 percent the venue attendance limit for concerts and cinemas for a Covid incidence rate of over 1 per thousand, as well as for restaurants, at an incidence of over 3 per thousand. Access will be further conditional on the green certificate, said Arafat, who also warned that businesses risk to interrupt their activity as a result of the infection of a large number of employees, if health rules are not observed.
