The mayor of the municipality of Timisoara, Dominic Fritz, from Save Romania Union (USR), criticized the emergency ordinance adopted by the Government on Friday regarding measures to reduce budget expenditures for the year 2023, asking the parliamentarians to correct the normative act in the Legislature.
He appealed to all mayors to oppose this measure.
"The government is preparing a robbery of the people's money, of Timisoara and of other local budgets in Romania. Through this ordinance, it wants to force us to not be able to spend money from the local budget, in order to be left with a surplus at the end of the year. That surplus, most likely, through the Reserve Fund, will reach the state budget from where they will distribute it at their discretion to cover other holes in the state budget. It is an unprecedented assault on the money of Romanian cities and I call on all mayors to oppose this measure. I also appeal to the MPs to correct this ordinance in Parliament," said Dominic Fritz, according to a statement sent to AGERPRES.
The mayor of Timisoara criticizes the "lack of vision and predictability" of measures adopted by the Government, considering that the effects of this ordinance are "catastrophic" for Romanian cities in the medium and long term.
A set of measures to reduce budget expenditures for 2023 in order to fall within the budget deficit target assumed by the Convergence Program was approved by the Government, on Friday, through an Emergency Ordinance.
