A Romanian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft carried out a medical evacuation mission from Israel on Wednesday, transporting ten patients and twenty-three accompanying persons, all Palestinian nationals, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) reported.
Five of the patients and five accompanying persons will later be transported to the Netherlands on another Romanian Air Force aircraft.
"The air transport mission was requested by the Department for Emergency Situations following a call from the European Emergency Response Coordination Centre, through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, in the context of the security situation in the Gaza Strip," the MApN stated in a press release.
According to the same source, the medical personnel accompanying the evacuees during the flights to Otopeni and Eindhoven were provided by SMURD and the MApN.
