The leaders of the governing coalition met on Tuesday afternoon at Victoria Palace of Government for a session expected to decide on measures concerning both local and central public administration.

Taking part in the meeting, alongside Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), and Sorin Grindeanu, interim chairperson of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), were several other political figures, including Kelemen Hunor (president of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania - UDMR), Varujan Vosganian (leader of the national minorities group), Daniel Baluta, Gheorghe Soldan (PSD), and Ciprian Ciucu (PNL).

Interim PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu stated on Monday that the Social Democrats expect the third package of measures to also include, in addition to those related to local and central administration, a component aimed at economic recovery.

"From our perspective, Package 3 should include local administration, central administration and, of course, what we will present to our coalition partners tomorrow - our proposals for economic recovery," Grindeanu said following the meeting of the PSD National Executive Committee.

Also on Monday, the mayor of Craiova, Lia Olguta Vasilescu (PSD), announced that the party would propose within the coalition a reduction of up to 20% in the total number of occupied positions in local administration, or alternatively, a 10% reduction in personnel expenses where job cuts are not feasible. For central administration, a decrease of "at least 10%"' in staff numbers is being considered.

Another topic set to be discussed within the coalition concerns the organisation of elections for the Bucharest City Hall.

PSD has not changed its stance on this matter and maintains that the coalition should either put forward a joint candidate or allow each party to run its own, Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday.

"We have not changed our position. Either we will have a common coalition candidate, or each party will field its own," Grindeanu stated.

He was also asked when the Bucharest mayoral elections would take place, given that USR representatives have argued that the Government and the coalition should reach a decision this week regarding the organisation of the vote in the capital.
