Social Democratic Party (PSD) MEP Vasile Dincu stated on Thursday that Romania need a strong and modernized Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) and this institution should have a Permanent Secretariat able to conduct its own analyses.

"Today, when we have a war at the border, when drones fall on Romania's territory, and cyberattacks and disinformation campaign are targeting us daily, we understand better that security does not mean only tanks and borders. Romania needs a strong and modernized CSAT. Not just a forum with formal powers, but a body that becomes the nerve center of strategic governance. A modern CSAT must have a Permanent Secretariat able to conduct its own analyses, to include new areas - energy, digital, health, critical infrastructures, to bring to the table not only generals but also civilian expert - sociologists, psychologists, engineers, doctors, researchers, to work through thematic subcommittees, constantly, not just ad hoc, to integrate expertise from universities, research and private sector, to be transparent, through a public annual report," Dincu wrote on his Facebook page.

He added that "a strengthened CSAT" does not mean centralization, but responsibility and coordination.

"If it remains a formality, we will continue to be vulnerable. If it is modernized, it can become Romania's strategic brain," he concluded.

The Supreme Council for National Defence is meeting on Thursday at the Cotroceni Palace, with the main topic of the session being the security of national airspace.
