Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu conveyed "full solidarity" in a telephone call on Monday with her counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
"Trust between people and countries is built in times of crisis - this was the conclusion of my telephone conversation with my counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE. I expressed my full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and other countries in the region affected by the Iranian attacks," Oana Toiu wrote on Facebook, agerpres reports.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy said their talks covered the scale of the attacks, air defence measures and efforts to ensure the safety of citizens, including Romanian nationals in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, along with the situation at airports and border crossings.
"I thanked him for the assistance and we will continue direct contact in support of diplomatic dialogue on the ground. Diplomatic dialogue between regions is important, including from the perspective of citizens' safety and the next steps. We mutually shared the conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council and of the Gulf Cooperation Council," Minister Toiu added.
There are currently 14,000 Romanian citizens in the United Arab Emirates, but only a minimal number of extremely urgent cases, Oana Toiu said earlier on Monday.
"The authorities' assessment is that, for today and tomorrow, remaining in their current locations is the recommended option for Romanian citizens," the foreign minister said at a press briefing.
