Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union might be an excellent occasion to convince European partners that they should earmark additional funds for vulnerable groups and, especially, for the Roma community of Romania and from many European states, Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu stated on Monday.
"Over the past years, Romania, under the National Strategy for the Roma, which is related to the European strategy, managed to implement a series of measures that come as a response for supporting this vulnerable group. It's important to find solutions on a European level. Definitely, the Roma community, the representative associations, but especially the National Agency for the Roma, all these structures will get involved in accomplishing events that are of interest. There are topics which we can talk about and which we can raise on a European level in order to find solutions. Because, for instance, we have a national strategy and we have a European reference framework for the Roma, but, unfortunately, these don't have sufficient funding in the European budget, and I believe that it's a very good occasion to find resources in Brussels, in order to materialise our national objectives," Negrescu told a debate, which was organised by the National Agency for the Roma.
He added that this meeting is part of a series of thematic debates which is to be launched into the public space.
Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu participated on Monday in the Roma Forum - Romania's Presidency of the Council of the EU panel, the Roma issue on the social agenda of the EU.
