Minister Radu Miruta's participation in the Munich Security Conference centred on meetings with foreign officials, representatives of leading defence companies and prominent global technology leaders, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) said in a press release issued on Sunday.
"In an international context characterised by dynamic developments in global security, this year's edition of the Munich Security Conference provided a broad framework for reflection on the main trends influencing the international environment. The agenda, structured around areas such as defence, the international order, global security, sustainability and technology, included debates on defence cooperation, transatlantic security, the management of new risks and the impact of emerging technologies, as well as developments shaping the European and global security architecture," the MApN release sent to AGERPRES on Sunday reads.
According to the cited source, the Romanian Defence Minister participated in bilateral meetings with counterparts and officials from allied states, as well as a series of meetings with representatives of the defence industry, the technology sector and strategic analysis organisations.
Discussions with companies in the defence field - Rheinmetall, MBDA, ARX Robotics, Diehl Defence and Airbus Defence and Space - focused on opportunities for industrial cooperation, capability development and the integration of emerging technologies into the modernisation processes of the Romanian Armed Forces.
In addition, during the meeting with Sven Kruck, co-CEO of the German company Quantum Systems, discussions centred on opportunities for industrial cooperation in the field of unmanned aerial systems, the press release notes.
The Minister's agenda also included meetings with representatives of global technology leaders - Google Cloud, Amazon, Schwarz Group and SAP SE, McKinsey's Global Defence Practice and Oracle Corporation - addressing topics such as digitalisation, technological innovation, cyber security and the resilience of critical infrastructure. At the same time, meetings with senior officials from the Atlantic Council and The Cohen Group analysed regional security developments, the strengthening of the transatlantic relationship, the role of NATO and the European Union, as well as prospects for support for Ukraine and investment in defence.
During these discussions, Minister Radu Miruta underlined that Romania must not be merely a security beneficiary but also an active provider, an objective that can only be achieved by consolidating a competitive defence industry. The Romanian official reiterated the need for its integration into the European ecosystem, enabling it to produce, innovate and attract strategic investment.
"A strong defence industry generates broad-based economic development by involving local suppliers, creating highly skilled jobs, transferring expertise and fostering technological innovation, thereby strengthening the value chains that support the entire national economy," the MApN press release emphasises.
Minister Radu Miruta also met with Siemtje Moller, Member of the Social Democratic Party in the Bundestag responsible for foreign and security policy, during which recent developments in the European security environment were discussed.
A delegation of the Ministry of National Defence, led by Minister Miruta, attended the Munich Security Conference from 12 to 15 February, one of the most important and prestigious international forums dedicated to debates on security and defence issues.
