The Ministry of Environment will observe its commitment to reduce personnel expenditures by 10%, according to the emergency ordinance on the administration reform, which is under public consultation, Minister Diana Buzoianu declared on Thursday.

"At the Ministry of Environment, we already had reorganizations that were made last year where management positions were reduced at the Forestry Guard, as well as at the Environmental Guard. These already help and will help this year to achieve a percentage out of the 10% that must be reduced. For the remaining of up to 10%, we will make reorganizations," said Buzoianu, after the Government meeting, when asked how many people will be laid off at the level of the Ministry of Environment following the application of the emergency ordinance on the reform in the central and local public administration, which is under public consultation.

She added that reorganizations are not done overnight, as audits are necessary.

"The Ministry of Environment will observe its commitment to reduce these expenditures by 10%. (...) We currently have analyses pending from all other subordinate institutions to see exactly what is needed for this year, in addition to what was done at the end of last year. (...) We are in discussions to see how much we achieved last year through the reductions that have already been made for management positions, how much this year's reductions cover. The next step we will take will be to audit key institutions so that we can carry out the reorganizations. The audit may reveal that certain increases need to be reduced or that layoffs may also need to be made", explained Diana Buzoianu.

According to her, Romanians have borne the tax increases and it is the Government's duty to observe this 10% reduction.

The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration (MDLPA) posted on Wednesday, on its website, in decisional transparency, the draft Government emergency ordinance regarding the measures in the administration in the version agreed by the governing coalition.
