The head coach of the Romanian national football team, Mircea Lucescu, stated, on Friday, in a press conference, that the "tricolors" must beat the small teams, from the level they are at in this moment, to be able to take the step to the next level.

"We will meet a very ambitious Cyprus team. They started well against Lithuania, they impressed us with their playing power, with the aggressiveness they showed, with the pressing they did. They were unlucky with Kosovo. I expect a good team, there are some very good players in the Cyprus team, they managed to make a competitive team and all the teams still have chances to win this group, like Lithuania, like Kosovo. We got six points, but this it doesn't mean anything if we don't keep getting six points. This is very important and the boys have to understand that if we beat the small teams we take a step forward, if not, we stay at this level, which is not normal," said Lucescu

"It is an important match for us, we treat it very seriously and I hope that the boys will be satisfied after the match. I am impressed by their relationships, by the way they behave towards each other. (...) We have to take a step forward, so that we can fight with the big teams of Europe and not suffer. We were not afraid in any stadium of Europe or the world. We took football to the highest level and everyone appreciated this. Nothing has changed, the Romanian player's talent is the same, it depends on how you educate them, how you organize them and how you ask them to perform. There are very important things, everything starts from here", Lucescu also declared.

The coach of the national team noticed an increase in the level of football in Cyprus in the last period: "Cypriot football has evolved, every year a Cypriot team evolves in European cups (in groups). They have a strong championship, a strong championship with foreign players, so we have to be very careful about how we behave tomorrow. Everyone is optimistic, enthusiastic, but it's not enough".

The Romanian national football team will play, in Group C2 of the League of Nations, with Cyprus, on Saturday, at 21:45, at the AEK Arena in Larnaca, then on October 15 (21:45) they will meet Lithuania, on the Dariaus ir Gireno stadium in Kaunas.

In the first matches of this campaign, Romania defeated Kosovo away (3-0) and Lithuania in Bucharest (3-1).
