The interim director general of the National Museum of Romanian History, Cornel Ilie, believes it would be normal for us to be concerned about the state of culture more than once a year.
'It is very good that there is a National Culture Day, that ceremonies are held celebrating Romanian culture and its outstanding personalities. It is very good that many institutions, not only cultural ones, organise various events to promote access to culture. It would be very good if such things did not happen only on 15 January,' Cornel Ilie said in a statement to AGERPRES on the occasion of National Culture Day.
The MNIR director considers that culture should be celebrated more often.
'It would be natural for us to be concerned about the state of culture more than once a year. This applies both to those who should provide the conditions for culture to thrive, to those through whom culture spreads in society and, of course, to those who should consume' cultural products. Therefore, let us celebrate National Culture Day, but also think about our everyday culture,' Cornel Ilie said.
Starting on 15 January 2011, Romanian culture has had an official national celebration, set on the anniversary of the poet Mihai Eminescu. National Culture Day was initiated by academician Eugen Simion, who was president of the Romanian Academy at the time, and was enacted by the Romanian Parliament in 2010. Now in its sixteenth edition, National Culture Day is celebrated both in the country and abroad.
